Glamour Shots

I found out what GPOY meant. I'm not sure that was the best discovery.

Vintage Motorcycle Jacket, H&M x Versace Sweater, Naked and Famous Denim, Nike Air Jordan 3, Hermés Bag

There are a couple of things I want to share with you all. First, I "borrowed" my brother's Jordan's after rolling my ankle during Christmas. No one is more surprised than I am, but somehow they go great with everything. I've never been a sneaker head so the borrow was purely out of necessity. Walking with a rolled ankle is impossible in unforgiving, leather brogues. Jordan's became my orthopedic shoes and my ankle's best friend. Two words: ARCH SUPPORT. Also, here is a close up of my initials stamped into the reverse side of the touret on my black Birkin. I like my monograms discreet, so this is the place I chose for all of them.

Yesterday, I finally styled a shoot after a long hiatus of active creative work. It was so much fun! The theme I conjured was "a motorcycle jacket for every man." My collection of outerwear has grown over the years, resulting in a strange mixture I am fond and proud of. Looking at the variations on one consistent item in my wardrobe (leather jackets) showed me how I came to my current styling choices. I have been so confused about my attraction to random styles, trying to make Rick Owens and J.Crew fit together. Perhaps it all makes sense when you look at the OCD preppy phase in my youth, the vintage/glam adventures I had in college, my quest for androgynous perfection, big brother's influence throughout my life, and my label obsessions in between.

Target Acquired: Hermés 40cm Veau Togo Etoupe Birkin Bag

Christmas came early this year. Behold my third child/Hermés handbag, the elusive 40cm Veau Togo Etoupe Birkin. Ever since I was a little boy I have dreamed of obtaining three coveted colors of the Birkin: A shade of Bleu, Noir, and either Etoupe or Gold. My trio is complete and I couldn't be more excited! I once crossed paths with this rare color before; I was lacking the funds and the soft and drapey Taurillon Clemence leather was not my first choice. With such a delicate hue, I wanted the leather to be structured. Patience and hard work and eating cheap food paid off once again! My luck at the San Francisco store may have something to do with the fact that my daily route to work includes a stroll right in front of Hermés, but I saw the plastic wrapped, factory fresh, newly shipped box opened and knew it was time.

The Veau Togo Etoupe leather is absolutely brilliant. The grain of this Togo skin is just as fine as in a Clemence and somehow just as soft and spongy. Usually Togo leather is stiff and rigid but this structured bag is firm yet supple. I am in love! Surprisingly I pulled the trigger on the 40cm. I was waiting for another 35cm bag, but my obsession with the color had a "more to love" effect on me. Etoupe is the perfect color of elegance. It reminds me of trench coats, dewy mornings, smoke from an extinguished candle, and tea. Hopefully this will put a hiatus on my Hermés bag hunger, but that may just be wishful thinking. Here is to another year of saving. Like I have said before, Birkins are like children - AND I'VE ALWAYS WANTED A BIG FAMILY.

Please don't shoot me.

Blue Period

Scott Campbell Tattoo Stole in Bleu by Louis Vuitton, Navy Wallet on a Chain by Chanel, Custom Navy Pentagram Harness by Zana Bayne Leather, 35cm Bleu de Malte Clemence Birkin and Indigo Suede Collier de Chien by Hermés

I am going through my blue period. Blue has always been one of my favorite colors. It reminds me of the sky and the sea, calm and clarity. A deep, rich shade of blue is bewitching - especially in leather. Here are a few of my true blue darlings displayed on a wooden deer head and gold leaf console from Shotwell SF. If you have kept up with me thus far, all but one of these treasures should already look familiar. Welcome to the family the Chanel Wallet on a Chain. It is the cutest, handiest little bag. Inside, the elegant clutch is lined with navy grosgrain ribbon and comes equipped with 6 card slots, 2 pockets, and 2 zippered pouches. On the outside, the luxurious caviar lambskin leather is decorated with silver double C's and a convenient pocket on the back, hanging on a silver chain that is laced with more leather. Originally I bought the bag to serve as a crossbody, but when I tuck the chain away it becomes an awesome clutch. The size is functional and fits all the essentials. I am still on the fence about getting one of the classic 2.55 bags because it is too feminine for my style. Not that this Wallet on a Chain is the butchest thing I own, but it still compliments my wardrobe. It is the perfect first Chanel for me!

Blue is a color I really connect with. I wonder if there are any colors that just sing to you?

Target Acquired: Hermès 40cm Clemence Noir Birkin Bag

For my 25th Birthday, I finally got the beautiful black Birkin of my dreams. It really is the most amazing bag in the world: timeless, unparalleled quality in materials, and iconic. The 40cm in black was always my dream Birkin, but for the longest time I lusted after the Togo leather with gold hardware. I suppose fate wanted me to see my options first. After spending much time with my first born (The 35cm Clemence Bleu de Malte), I fell in love with the versatility of the Palladium hardware and the soft hand and drape of the Clemence leather. A 40cm Birkin made in Clemence, when empty, folds onto itself like it has been well traveled. Fill it with your belongings, and it has all the structure of a Togo bag. It is the perfect balance!!

Thank goodness I waited, thank my parents for putting an end to the madness, and thank JESUS the perfect bag was in stock for my birthday. Lady luck was on my side, and it is already shaping up to be a wonderful year!! I am sorry it took so long to post a picture haha

Target Acquired: Proenza Schouler PS1 in Smoke Leather

Shirt by Uniqlo, See by Chloé Shorts, Sandals by Burberry Prorsum, Bracelets by Hermés, Handbag by Proenza Schouler

I finally got my PS1!! It took forever for the smoke color to be re-stocked at the right time for me to get it. Thanks again for all of your votes! I am glad that I went with the smoke leather. The color and hand of the leather is of the highest quality. Somehow the bag even smells wonderful. There are many pockets and compartments in the PS1, along with a convenient cross body strap. In the few weeks I have had it, my new bag has proven to be one of the most versatile pieces in my artillery. Definitely worth the wait! The beautiful leather will age nicely; imagine the patina of the smoke gray in the future :)

The Smoke PS1 is featured in a Charity Buzz auction to benefit Japan. The auction, "Includes: the opportunity to custom design a Proenza Schoulder PS1 bag with Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez." I mean that opportunity is priceless, but you would simultaneously be helping aid those effected by the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. Click here to place your bid!

You Know It's a Classic When...

Photo posted by @ProenzaSchouler via Twitter

Proenza Schouler posted a picture of the newest reincarnation of the PS1. From Mulberry to McQueen, there are so many look alikes out there that the PS1 might actually be considered a classic. This bag has functionality, keeps interest (I AM STILL WAITING FOR ONE), and has been produced in a variety of colors, textiles, and skins. But there is one finish that truly tests the makings of a classic handbag - enter: the patent PS1. I am not sure how I feel about this one yet, but flags go up when something is produced in patent leather.

Judging purely on the basis of wear, drape, and usage frequency, patent might not be the best look for a leather PS1 because such a finish cracks and peels over time, losing the "wetness" the owner fell in love with to begin with. The PS1 is an easy everyday bag that should build a beautiful patina over time, not lose its luster.

In other news, Marc Jacobs poses in drag for the latest cover of Industrie Magazine. Hope you can handle all that ferosh. If you disagree, he is MARC JACOBS and you hella aren't then take it up with Patrick Demarchelier (the guy who did all those other covers that make you not eat) and Katie Grand (the voice inside your head that says, "I NEED EVERYTHING ON THIS PAGE.").

This Could be the Week...

Tommy Ton's photos on JAK&JIL

I have been waiting and praying for Barney's to re-stock the elusive Céline luggage tote and box clutch in the colors I desire. Look how well they go with the Sofia!! Leopard too, which would be perfect with the sneakers I just ordered. Good thing pay day is on Friday or else I might not even be able to get it if it arrives. Heaven help me if the PS1 in smoke finally comes as well.

I have been stress shopping, but simultaneously cleaning out my closet. It is clear to me that my bank account cannot survive much more of this, so I have vowed to keep shopping to a minimum until the holiday sales. But these bags have been on the brain for too long...

A closet cleanse is a great way to make room for new items, make money from selling, and/or more importantly re-evaluate your taste. I enjoy discovering old things that compliment my newer garments. Let's see where 2011 will take me.

VALEXTRA, VALEXTRA - Read All About It!

Valextra is a fine example of why Italians are famous for flawless leather work. The brand produces iconic bags using only innovative design to effectively stand out in a sea of logos. I often find myself staring at Valextra's offerings during my regular Barney's browsing. Sometimes we forget about just appreciating excellent craftsmanship in a handbag. Valextra has a wide range of highly sought after leather goods to suit any person's needs, with the added advantage of emblem/logo-free design to stand the test of time. They do not make "it" bags; for some, they make THE bags. And all of this, perfect for the resurgence of minimalist accessorizing.

Naturally, when a brand produces classic after classic, similarities are bound to errupt with other fashion super-powers. For example, take a look at these bags from Valextra's Spring/Summer 2011 Collection:

left: Valextra SS2011, right: Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Cèline

See how Valextra's pink frame clutch looks like the frame Speedy from Louis Vuitton. The closure and carry of Valextra's bucket bag is also very close to the So Kelly bag from Hermès. And while the bowling bag is a universal handbag shape, see how the last bag resembles both the speedy and the new Kelly bag Phoebe Philo's luggage tote for Cèline.

Valextra is easily missed at the handbag line up because there is not necessarily a logo or prestige pull. However, there is a heritage and aesthetic from this brand that makes it the perfect option for that customer who loves the look of the current "it" bag, but would like a more low-key piece to translate from season to season. It will be made just as well (if not better) with high quality materials, it is free from heavy branding, and it costs just the same.

So don't pass up Valextra. I know it sounds like the name of some villain in a sci-fi movie, but really it is the label of her fierce handbag.

Rock the Vote: Proenza Schouler PS1

I have been known to talk myself off ledges right before major purchases. Picking between two jackets, bags, or what have you, can be like Sophie's Choice when the only difference is the color way. Such is the case when I fantasized about the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag. I think I am finally ready to purchase one, but my preference in color and size keeps changing. Remember when I narrowed it down to 3?? Everything has changed again. The large size is perfect, but I find myself second guessing my need for the second cross body strap that is exclusive to the extra large size. Then there is the matter of choosing a color. I first fell in love with the Midnight color when I first discovered the bag years ago. However, the Smoke color captured my heart and has been my number one choice for the longest time. But then the Military Olive color was released, stirring up the debate once again.

I HAVE NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE LARGE SIZE IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COLORS:

If you or someone you know own a PS1, I would love to hear your feedback. Please let me know what color and size you think work best for your lifestyle. So exciting!!

Sack is Such a Good Word

I love a good rucksack/backpack/bookbag. I am still in search of the perfect shape and quality leather. Essentially, I need something that will have clean lines, drape well even when stuffed, and develop a beautiful patina over time. I am pretty picky too: I want a top handle that is large enough to use as a tote carry. The following are excellent candidates, especially when paired with these preppy collegiate looks!!

Photos from the September Issue of Interview

I leave for my Eastern European vacation in 2 days, so hopefully there is a Bree store that will have a full vachetta rucksack somewhere. I am excited for some time off. Travel is like a reset button for me, filled with endless inspiration and food!!

Gray Days in June Gloom

I finally start appreciating color, and then San Francisco decides to revert to darkness. The constant cloudiness has me reaching for the black once more. Oddly enough, there were plenty of A/W styles for spring which might prove useful next year because winter likes to stick around longer in the city by the bay. Here are some looks from Spring/Summer 2001 that matches my mood now; and while we are on the subject, I am still in dire need of the elusive PS1 in either smoke, navy, or pre-fall print. Seriously, is there PS1 to fit every mood?

THIS GOES WITH THAT

California dreamin' is for San Franciscans too. I am aching for some sunlight and pray that I get some before fall arrives. Seriously, I need more weather to justify new additions to my wardrobe!

Unusual Suspect

My daily commute is filled with colorful stories. I usually tweet what I see in the morning because it makes my bus rides go faster, and documenting my #munidiaries has become a ritual. Mobile technology has rendered fake calls/texting obsolete in awkward or lengthy situations because you can update statuses instead of lying in an act of desperation. Sometimes I take pictures of the people or things I see if I'm ballsy.

So whenever a great moment catches me off-guard, I cannot help but stare impolitely and take pictures. Like this guy. I was pleasantly surprised by this man who got on the bus completely low key but dressed in head-to-toe designer. I will not get into specifics with who made his tee or which jeans he made into cut offs (both bought at Barney's). However, his backpack had me beaming with curiosity. Here is someone who obviously invests in designer goods, but dresses as if he shops thrift. It is not intentionally rebellious or categorized; rather his style is reserved for people who know what they are looking at - or at least that is what I gathered from this brief encounter. I was smitten with his rucksack but it was not until I looked at the Rag & Bone patch that I knew it was designer, then the rest fell into place. Notice the utility knife and pens... he uses the compartments and wears the bag as it was meant to be used. Chic! Who needs a knife though?

My Louis Vuitton usually surprises people. Carrying accessories that are unexpected yet appropriate and complimentary is a challenge, which is why I think I am addicted to bags. Monograms may be obvious, but pair it with menswear and you get something new. The same is true with gladiator sandals, cut out shoes, or Cuban heels: they can be the show stoppers on the right outfit, with or without a label.

Covert Operations

Blazer by Zara, Tee by Dries Van Noten, Khakis by J.Crew, Brooch by H&M, Vintage Boots, Bag by Louis Vuitton

The internal struggle continues with choosing which Louis Vuitton Sofia Coppola Bag I should pick for my birthday. The Suede asphalt has been taken out of the running because I am not Kate Moss and I don't have Kate Moss money it is impractical. The price point for the SC Bag ups the ante, making owning both next to impossible. From the beginning, it was always the Jasper; and if I have learned anything from trying to decide between two colors of the same limited edition bag, I should trust my instincts. Still, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I brought in my gaysian and my geisha to give their opinions while experiencing the bags in question. This is input I can respect and trust. The strict no photo policy at LV stores turned this into a covert operation, but my friend's sidekick allows for inconspicuous photo taking. So here are the two darlings in all their glory: Cobalt v. Jasper

The judges unanimously agreed that the Jasper is the color to go for. First, the Jasper color is a unique shade of red that will age beautifully. The Cobalt is really gorgeous, but the twilight shade of blue is so dark that it really looks black most of the time. There is no point in getting the color even I cannot really appreciate all the time. This also highlights the next argument: there will be other black and blue bags.

Jasper wins in the color and longevity categories for its uniqueness and classic/timeless nature. Both bags have an element of wearability. The Cobalt is such an obvious pick because of my deep love for navy, but when putting it next to my entire wardrobe, it seems to be too "matchy matchy." The Jasper can add interest to any outfit without overpowering because it is not such a shocking red.

I believe I have made a pretty solid decision in choosing the Jasper, but I am still taking votes. Once again, I will only count votes made after seeing the bags in person. My entire family still has to weigh in, so anything can happen. Both colors are on hold for me until I make my decision.

Vote NOW!

Rock the Vote

It's that time of the month again, and trust me when I say my "time of the month" is getting really expensive. Financial Emotional ups and downs, and this time it is my birthday. We all know I need a little help when it comes to making decisions. I can barely decide on what to eat for dinner, let alone which bag to choose when offered a variety of color ways. So again, with the Louis Vuitton (oh, jerome!). I will keep this short and sweet. The SC Bag is pretty much the Birkin of LV bags, and if you cannot get passed price tags for handbags, then I cannot help you, nor do I want your advice. So which one should I get, the Jasper calf leather, the Asphalt suede, or the cobalt calf leather? The decision must be made on the 24th of May, so comment or email me with your vote!!

Love Always, Arm Candy

Vintage Shades and Floral Shirt, Camera Tee by Milkfed by Sofia Coppola, Leather Jacket by H&M, Denim by J. Crew, Bag by Louis Vuitton

Leather Jacket and Chambray Shirt by H&M, "RIP YSL" Tee by Brian Lichtenberg for BITNB, Denim by Uniqlo, Bag by Louis Vuitton

I am in love with my Néo bags, both Monogram Canvas and Monogram Eden. I feel like I am cheating on the other whenever I use either bag, so I try and alternate as much as I can (as long as the weather permits - there is no way they are getting wet with the patina this young!) The shape and size are perfect for my essentials and then some, and the versatility in carry styles has changed my view on accessories completely.

It just goes to show you you have to follow your gut; which reminds me I have to start going to the gym again I am solidifying my birthday shopping lists, and will fill you in as my savings deplete :X

Fun side note: My partner did not break up with me after he found me taking pictures using photobooth doing the strangest poses with my favorite handbags. Also, posing on a revolving computer chair is not the stablest idea.

Target Acquired: Louis Vuitton Monogram Eden Khaki Néo and Rainbow Bag Charm

How I (used to) spend my free time, whispering "I WILL SAVE YOU."

There are moments when you realize you simply cannot live without that special something. After purchasing my Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Néo, I was extremely happy. It is the perfect bag in terms of size, shape, and color. It is one of those pieces I can use every day (when it isn't raining), and it will last forever. But every time I thought of my first love, the Monogram Eden Khaki Néo, there was a deep aching in my heart.

The obsession never ceased. From the moment I saw it on the runway, I knew the Monogram Eden Néo was to be mine... until I was forced to choose between two perfections. It was a Sophie's Choice situation, and I went with the "practical" Monogram Canvas. I was so happy, but I knew something was still missing. I would get butterflies as I saw the Eden Néo in passing, and I was losing so much sleep thinking about the royal metallic colors and ultra supple lambskin. I do not regret buying the Monogram Canvas bag in the least, and I am proud to say I saved enough to get all my favorite accessories from Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Not everyone will understand how anyone could ever spend so much on a handbag. To be honest, I cannot waste my time on why other people love, hate, or disagree with this bag; I can only express why I love this new addition to my collection. First of all, the model itself is already tried and true, as the Monogram Canvas Néo has served me well without fail for as long as I have had it. Also, the color is a unique shade of green that speaks to me. The Khaki brings a sparkle to my eye, and will age beautifully as the calf leather begins to develop a darker patina. This is my favorite color from the Eden collection which, in itself, is absolutely inspired. The Eden collection is a salute to the beauty of the nature found in the urban jungle. I am a city boy for sure, but I love to escape using the beauty of the world around us. The concept is relevant to me and as precious as the bag itself. The craftsmanship that goes into the Eden collection is exquisite. Lambskin bags are ultra-luxurious goods to begin with but when you discover that each ribbon of metallic Monogram Canvas is individually cut, aligned, set, and sewn on each of the Eden bags, they become works of art. The look is completely different from the original indestructible Monogram Canvas with its own unique charm. Why didn't I realize it before? Having these two bags is just like having more than one Speedy: with each different Canvas or Epi, there is a completely new bag to fall for with the same charm and function.

Speaking of charms, I went for broke and purchased the Rainbow Bag charm as well. It is one of the defining icons of the collection. You have to see how the tassels sway, flowing like the golden locks of Alphonse Mucha's flower maidens. And do not even get me started on the sound the tassels make... it is like satisfaction with each step. The luggage tag I bought previously has been hot stamped in gold with my initials, like icing on a very expensive cake. And as my best gay put it, "I kind of want to lick... eat this bag."

Never did I imagine I would be able to own both of these bags. HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! All the blood, sweat, and tears of a retail day job DOES pay off. She works hard for the money handbags. My next task is to recreate the red fox tail that never went into production... and SAVE EVERY PAYCHECK FROM NOW UNTIL my actual birthday ETERNITY TO PAY FOR THIS BABY.

Call me Asian. I am. Call it an old Russian lady's bag. Well, razreshitie predstaveet babushka. I LOVE IT!! I couldn't be happier, now I can shut up about it :)

INVEST IN HAPPINESS

An Open Letter to Marc Jacobs and Bryanboy

Dear Marc Jacobs and Bryanboy,

Hello! My name is Jerome, and I am writing to you both from San Francisco, California. You probably have never heard of me (yet/until now, ha!), but I wanted to tell you how inspired I am from the recent photos I have been seeing from fashion week.

Marc, you've got the brains, the brands, the boy, the body, and the Birkin. Your creativity captures my heart yet again with clothes and bags I cannot possibly live without. From the moment I saw it, I knew the Néo bag was to be mine. I acquired the Monogram, and I am still desperate for a piece of the Eden collection... specifically the flat bag with tassels and tails. I was ready to surrender my savings for both the Néo and the flat bag, but to my severe dismay the latter never went into production.

Bryanboy, your relevant point of view and success has my respect as a Filipino trying to make it in the fashion industry. I never dreamed I would see a fashion Filiblogger reach such heights. I feel so proud that pinoys have Pacquiao in boxing, and Bryanboy in blogging. I smiled really big while reading your tweets about your visit to Condé Nast yesterday. I follow your twitter, so you can imagine the awkward earsplitting homo shriek jaw dropping action that occurred when I saw this picture during my commute to work:

Now, I propose that we keep those Eden Flat Bags all in the Filiblogger family. The Khaki looks beautiful on you, Bryanboy. And Marc, that is my favorite color from the collection; though favorites are next to impossible when the Argent and Pêche are just as gorgeous. So please consider passing on (or selling) the other flat bag to me. It would be an honor to carry it, and I promise to give it a good home. You will not regret it. I will even work for (either) of you. In any case, I will continue to be your loyal customer and reader, and possibly employee! All I would like is that bag, but you will get an employee out of it... an excellent return on investment. (see, I even know about things like ROI!)

I am currently working hard to make it as your peer (both of you) one day, but until then, keep doing what you do and please think about my offer.

Sincerely (serious),

- Jerome

IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO GET THIS LETTER TO EITHER BRYANBOY OR MARC JACOBS, OR IF YOU KNOW HOW I CAN GET THE BAG, PLEASE EMAIL ME IMMEDIATELY.

UPDATE 10/16/12 - WTF WAS I THINKING. Even I can't fake liking these two enough to get swag ("swag" back in my day meant "stuff we all get.")

Identify, Simplify, Justify

Monogram Canvas Néo Bag by Louis Vuitton Look 1: Vintage Blazer, Shirt by Dries Van Noten, Jodhpurs by Comme des Garçons for H&M, Shoes by Whoop-de-Doo. Look 2: Leather Jacket by H&M, Denim and Oxford Shirts by Uniqlo, Jeans by Ksubi, Brogues by Prada. Look 3: Trench by Burberry, Shirt by Shipley and Halmos, Shorts by See by Chloé, Sandals by Jeffrey Campbell.

Picking out a new luxury handbag can be a difficult and lengthy process when you don't collect them, are on a budget, and/or have no idea where to begin. If you have been following this blog for the past couple months, you know of my total dilemma with picking the right color for the Louis Vuitton Néo bag above! But I am happy with my choice. You can see that it goes with my normal color palette, and of course will last a life time.

After helping Lindsey Shook pick out a bag, I thought a little advice from a bag addict might help more people. Here are a few tips that can hopefully help you out when shopping. NOTE: I am writing this from a male perspective so even though I am writing about women's handbags (though some options are more unisex), this applies to briefcases, holdalls, and other man bags.

First, think about your wardrobe as a whole and how the new bag will assimilate. Handbags can be a statement piece or the perfect accent to an outfit, but remember that you will be carrying it everywhere and it is an investment. If you normally like to wear minimalist silhouettes and let your shoes, jewelry, and accessories do the "talking," then fashion bags that come in seasonal styles and bright colors will work. Otherwise, stick with a classic shape and color that suits your style. Do not try to match exactly because wardrobes and moods change constantly. Think about versatility. If you can afford to splurge on designer collector's pieces on a regular basis, share the wealth more power to you. But there are many fast fashion brands producing affordable trendy bags as well.

The next step is dumping out your old bag to see what you have in there now. Your new bag should be able to carry your daily essentials. Estimate how big your bag should be based on your old one, which will help you decide on a functional silhouette that matches your needs and personality.

Finally, it is time to decide on a budget and do some research. Budgets almost always determine where you are going to shop, but do not rule out sales, the Internet, and promotions. Research is important, even for the seasoned shopper. There is always something new and multiple options are a godsend when you are nervous about spending; there is security in knowing you made the right decision.

And when you cannot make up your mind, ask your friends! Ask for an honest opinion from someone whose taste is similar to yours, or at least someone who knows your style. I had such doubt about my color choice for the bag above that I asked everyone to vote. When everyone weighed in the other color seemed to win, but after taking a couple of my friends to view the bags, they all agreed that the Monogram suits me more. I am glad I trusted my instincts (backed with objective opinions). I couldn't be happier!

I hope that this post was helpful, or at least a little educational. Many of you are probably saying, "DUH" right now, but at least you are reading.. Thanks again for that! I think I can cool it for a little while on the bag posts, but as my wishlist indicates there will definitely be more to come :)

Target Acquired: Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Néo and Circus Bag Charm

The wait is over! After months of intense saving, deciding, waitlisting, heartache, and patience, I finally received my very own Louis Vuitton Néo! As you can see I went with the Monogram Canvas for its versatility and classic appeal. This bag is absolutely stunning, and truly the most wearable from the Spring 2010 collection. Getting the Monogram instead of the Eden Khaki allowed me to pick up the Circus Charm too!

These oversized tassels are the most charming bag charm I have seen in a while. They can be worn with my other LV bags as well. I am in love with these two new pieces and happily took them off my wishlist :)

Thank you to everyone who voted and helped me make my decision!!

I Like Buying Stuff for You

If only, right? Even though I cannot actually buy you (and usually myself) stuff, I can at least help you pick out things. Let's just say I have clocked more shopping field time than your average homo guy. When local muse, marketing guru Lindsey Shook recently approached me about a new handbag, my ears perked up excitedly because of her high taste level and style code. Based on the two bags she sent me for reference and budget (low: Alexander Wang Rocco, high: Givenchy Studded Nightingale), I came up with a range of pieces with versatility and staying power. Lindsey, CEO of Harputs Market, is looking for a medium satchel that is not too trendy. That attitude is KEY: In order to go for a high price point while remaining responsible with money, stay away from "it" bags and trust in ICONS. The following is an assortment of handbags I chose for her.

(Click Image to Enlarge) From Left to Right 1. Be&D Genesis Leather Bag 2. Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag 3. Givenchy Studded Nylon Satchel 4. Yves Saint Laurent Medium Easy Bag 5. Proenza Schouler PS1 Messenger Bag 6. Givenchy Nightingale Satchel in Corset Chain/Old Pepe 7. Louis Vuitton x Sofia Coppola Bag

1. Be&D Genesis Leather Shoulder Bag, $1,095

The Genesis is a an excellent sized bag with accents that are trendy, but not overwhelming. It is a durable and popular bag that can be hand carried or worn using the cross body strap. The black leather and silver hardware will match everything. Slightly edgy, but simple enough to adapt to different outfits in your wardrobe.

2. Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag with Strap, $595
Its name suggests its purpose. The Morning After Bag is built for girls (or guys ha!) who need space for daily essentials and a little more for all-night adventures. The classic satchel silhouette is simple but modern, and the blue/white stripe lining is a pleasant surprise. There is also a mini M.A.B. for those who like the look but need to downsize. The M.A.B comes in variety of colors depending on the season.

3. Givenchy Studded Nylon Satchel, $735
Studs are on their way out this season. Unless you really committed to the entire look in the past and plan to continue with it in the future, a studded purse might not be the right choice when shopping higher price points. However, I added this to the mix because Lindsey showed an interest in studs and the price is not as high as the other selections. The studs are trendy, but the bag is a unique enough shape to where it won't get lost in the shuffle. Also, the different handles allow the bag to be a sling, tote, or cross body.

4. Yves Saint Laurent Medium Easy Bag, $1,295
The "Y" seams on this versatile bag is bound to be a classic for the house of YSL. The pebble grained leather is magnificent. You can also increase the capacity and change the shape of the bag from satchel to tote by adjusting the tabs on the sides. I have this bag in black, but I love it so much that I often consider getting the smaller version in the deep sapphire color. This bag also comes in different styles with studs or perforated/patent/printed leather, but I still swear by the soft leather.

5. Proenza Schouler Medium PS1 Messenger Bag, $1,595
The PS1 is a beautiful interpretation of the classic briefcase silhouette. It has been seen on the arms of many "it" girls, but is still sure to be a classic. What really impresses me with the PS1 is its ability to adapt to different personalities. The bag is reincarnated each season with new colors, though as seasons pass I still favor the black, navy or camel suede. This is another bag that comes with a strap so you can drink cocktails freely while texting. The medium is the perfect size if you need a bag for both day and night.

6. Givenchy Nightingale Satchels, $1,815 - $2,240
Givenchy Nightingales can be seen in many different colors, treatments, sizes, and finishes. It is a charming, roomy bag that is popular for a reason. The wide range of hardware seen on different styles of the Nightingale makes shopping for one a little tricky. The bag itself is that rare classic/statement piece, so buy one with a luxurious leather and simple accents that will give the bag staying power. I have found that even though decadent hardware may have an impact now, many people get bored of it as the fashion cycle turns. You will get more use out of a bag that you won't grow tired of looking at because it is too shiny, flashy, or dated.

7. Louis Vuitton Sofia Coppola Bag, $2,250 - $3,730
The Louis Vuitton SC Bag is my top pick for this selection. Because of its price point, it is almost a hypothetical suggestion, but it can be considered the bag that sets the bar. The SC bag is the perfectly sized, classic satchel that exudes class and refinement. The bag is lined in luxurious calf suede and comes in monogram canvas, asphalt suede, and jasper (red) or cobalt calf leather that has been specifically treated to produce the softest leather I have ever felt. The bag includes a covered padlock, clochette for the keys, a cross body strap, and protective feet at the base. You can bet that Louis Vuitton bags will last forever, so it is a great investment. I ache for this bag, and one day it will be mine! For now, it will remain one of the standards for searching for a high-quality handbag :)
